Finding and fixing hail damage on Indianapolis roofs
After a hailstorm you may spot dents in the gutters or on the car, but what the hail did to your roof is harder to see from the yard. A storm doesn’t have to break windows to take years off a roof, which is why a close look matters more than how big the storm seemed.
Call (866) 242-1832 after a hailstorm, whether you’ve noticed a few dings on the downspouts or shingles torn loose across the roof. Dents in the gutters and vents tell you hail hit the house, but not what it did to the shingles, so we check those up close. The work can be as small as a few bruised shingles on one slope or as big as a full replacement, and we handle either.
Dynamic Restoration dates back to 2008, and our Indiana team inspects and repairs hail damage on homes in Indianapolis and across Hamilton, Boone and Madison counties. The inspection is free, with photos of every slope, many taken by drone, and repairs use GAF shingles matched as closely as we can to the roof around them. When the hail calls for a new roof, we install a complete GAF system, which can qualify for GAF’s enhanced warranties through our Master Elite® certification.
On asphalt shingles, a hailstone knocks loose the granules that shield the asphalt from the sun, leaving dark spots. A harder hit leaves a bruise, a soft spot you can feel when you press it, or cracks the fiberglass mat inside the shingle. That mat is what keeps water out, so a cracked one is real damage even when the shingle looks whole.
What we check after a hailstorm
- Shingles for bruises, cracks and fresh granule loss
- Ridge caps, the most exposed part of the roof
- Roof vents, flashing and other soft metal
- Gutters, downspouts and gutter guards
- Siding, trim and window wraps
Hail signs you can spot from the ground
- Dents along gutters and downspouts
- Dings or spatter marks on roof vents
- Dents on the air conditioner cabinet
- Cracks or holes in vinyl siding
- A sudden pile of granules at the downspouts
How your project runs
From the first chalk mark to the final walkthrough, we tell you what the hail did, what the fix takes and when the crew will be there.
Stay off the roof
Look from the ground for dented gutters, downspouts and vents, torn shingles, or granules washed out of the downspouts.
Photograph and note the date
Take dated photos of any dents, cracked siding and leaks inside, and write down when the storm came through.
Keep water out
If water is getting in, call (866) 242-1832. We can tarp the damaged area until the repair can be made.
Book a free inspection
We check the roof section by section, circle each hit in chalk and photograph it, so you can decide whether to file a claim.
File and meet the adjuster
If you file, check your policy for its deadlines. We meet your adjuster on the roof and go over what we found. Your insurer decides coverage.
Indianapolis hail damage repair for your home
Hail-damaged shingles are replaced with the closest match we can find, and a full replacement goes on as a complete roof system to the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Every hit marked
We circle each hit in chalk and count them in test squares, measured patches marked off on each slope, so the photos show where hail struck and how often.
- Honest about wear
Granule loss that’s even across the roof or runs along shingle edges usually comes from age, and we’ll tell you so rather than call it hail.
- Photos while the damage is fresh
Booking soon after the hail gives you photos taken while the hits are new, which makes the damage easier to tie to one storm.
- Decking and insulation kept dry
Replacing hail-cracked shingles before they leak keeps water away from the decking and the insulation in the attic below.
Hail damage across Central Indiana
Our Indiana team works across Indianapolis and the towns around it. Each town has its own page.
How long do I have to file a hail claim?
That’s set by your policy, so read it or ask your agent. Many policies set a deadline for reporting damage, and some set separate time limits for finishing repairs or recovering depreciation. An inspection soon after a storm usually serves you better than waiting for a leak, because photos dated close to the storm are easier to tie to it.
Can you repair a few shingles, or does the whole roof need replacing?
It depends on how many hits there are and where. Damage on one slope can often be repaired with matching shingles. Bruises and cracks across several slopes usually mean replacement, because the damaged shingles will keep failing and new ones patched in won’t match the rest. Matching is harder on an older roof whose shingles are weathered or discontinued. The chalk marks and photos show you why we recommend one or the other.
Why do you mark my roof with chalk?
Chalk makes each hit easy to see in a photo. We circle hits as we find them and count them within test squares, so the photos show you, and an adjuster if you file a claim, exactly where the damage is and how much there is. The chalk washes off in the next few rains.
Does hail damage siding and gutters too?
Often. Vinyl siding gets stiffer in cold weather, so an early-spring hailstorm can crack panels that would flex in July. Aluminum gutters and downspouts dent. We inspect the whole exterior on the same visit and photograph everything, so a repair or a claim covers the house, not just the roof.
