Repairs and new roofs for Plainfield homes
Whether your Plainfield house is a few years old or well over a century, the roof is what keeps the rest of it dry. Roughly half the town’s homes date from 2000 or later, by Census estimates, so many original roofs are reaching the age when small problems become leaks. Catching them early protects the framing and ceilings below and keeps the house easier to sell.
Call (866) 242-1832 at the first sign of a drip in the attic, a spreading ceiling stain or shingles slipping off a slope. We’ll fix a single leaking valley on an older bungalow, and we’ll also strip a whole roof to the deck or replace it with standing-seam metal.
Since 2008 we’ve made our living on roofs, and here in Indiana our crews look after homes in Plainfield, Danville and the rest of southern Hendricks County, along with nearby Avon and Greenwood. Standing-seam metal is part of what we install, along with complete GAF shingle roofs, vinyl or James Hardie siding and seamless aluminum gutters. Before any of that, we do a free inspection and take photos, frequently with a drone.
The Plainfield Historic District calls for a different approach. Its 174 contributing buildings, put up between about 1840 and 1959, run from Greek Revival and Italianate houses to Queen Anne homes and Craftsman bungalows. Houses that old have usually been re-roofed several times, so a tear-off can expose stacked layers, plank decking with gaps between the boards or chimney flashing past saving.

What Plainfield homes need

Finding the leak on an older roof
Most leaks on an older roof start at a chimney, a valley, a vent or a spot where an addition meets the original house. We trace the water back to where it gets in, photograph it and repair it with matching materials where we can. If the roof itself is worn out, we’ll say so rather than patch it again.

A whole new roof, down to the deck
We remove every old layer, replace boards or sheathing that won’t hold a nail and build the roof back up to the manufacturer’s specifications, with leak barrier, underlayment, starter strip, shingles and ridge vent. You choose the GAF shingle and the color. Before we leave, we walk the finished roof with you.

Standing-seam metal for the long haul
Standing-seam metal suits owners who want a roof with no shingles to lose. Its panels lock together at raised seams, the fasteners stay hidden underneath, and snow and ice slide off instead of sitting at the eaves. We’ll compare it with shingles for your house so you can decide on facts.

Siding, soffit and fascia for any age of house
Plainfield siding jobs run from Craftsman bungalows and Queen Anne houses near Main Street to homes in subdivisions built since 2000. We replace faded, cracked or wind-loosened vinyl, or put up James Hardie fiber cement if you want a heavier board. Where water has rotted the soffit or fascia behind the old siding, we repair that wood before anything new covers it.

Gutters that carry the water away
We form 5″ or 6″ seamless aluminum gutters on site, cut to the length of each run, and add downspouts where the water needs to go. Placed well, they keep roof water away from the foundation and the basement walls.
More on seamless guttersHow we look after a Plainfield home
We stay in touch throughout, so you aren’t left guessing about what the inspection turned up, which repair makes sense or the date our crew shows up.
- Leaks traced to the source
We follow the water back to the chimney, valley, vent or addition seam where it gets in, and photograph that spot before we quote a repair.
- Older houses opened with care
On historic-district homes we take off every layer, photograph the deck and replace any plank that won’t hold a nail before new underlayment goes down.
- Metal and shingles, priced side by side
If you’re weighing standing-seam metal, we price it next to a shingle roof for the same house, so you compare real numbers rather than guesses.
- Water kept off the foundation
We size each gutter run on site and set the downspouts where they’ll send roof water away from the basement walls.
Questions from Plainfield homeowners
Something else on your mind? Call (866) 242-1832 and ask.
Call (866) 242-1832Our Plainfield house is close to a hundred years old. What should we expect from a new roof?
Expect a full tear-off, down to the original boards. With houses that age it’s common to find a few boards that need replacing, so we photograph the deck once it’s exposed and explain what we’re changing before we close it up. You don’t pay until the roof is complete and we’ve gone over it together.
Is metal roofing a good choice for an older home?
It can be. Standing-seam metal is light, it doesn’t rely on granules and it handles snow well. It costs more to install than shingles, so it makes most sense if you plan to stay in the house. We can price both for you after the free inspection.
Do you also work in Danville?
Yes. Danville is part of our service area, along with Plainfield and the rest of southern Hendricks County. Inspections are free, and financing is available if you need it.
